Lime Rock In A Miata
Published: April 14, 2014; updated: June 16, 2014
Ran a 1:03.5 best in April 2014, best ever was a 1:02.5 on cording A6 in March 2013.
Ran a 1:02.8 in May 2014 on Maxxis tires. Tires may have been too wide - possibly can go faster overall on 225 Nittos or Toyos.
Find the blue dots.
Turn 1
April 2014:
I was braking at 2.5 marker and when I tried braking at 2 I left two black stripes until the apex of turn 1. This is surely slow. Maxxis tires not at their max grip? I seem to recall braking from 1 marker in a diagonal in 2013.
June 2014:
Should try aiming for the apex. I am aiming about 1/3 off the left edge of the track for the apex in turn 1.
Mind the camber on inside half width.
Turn 2
April 2014:
I forget my lines through 2. I think I used to run a double apex.
May 2014:
Coming out between 1 and 2 and being early on throttle into 2 seems to be the ticket. Started working on throttle steering into 2 - throttle steer more. Need more seat time for throttle steering.
June 2014:
Mind the camber on inside half width.
Turn 3
April 2014:
Remember that the inside half of 3 is more cambered than the outside and try staying more in next time.
May 2014:
Tried working on the middle line, keep working on middle line.
June 2014:
Try the inside line, although it sounds like middle or outside lines might be quicker overall.
Mind the camber on inside half width.
Turn 4
April 2014:
Should definitely be flat out through there, if not there is either a seat time or tire grip problem.
June 2014:
When running out of grip, try turning in under full throttle and lifting in the turn.
Try opening steering when understeering at track out. Questionable as I use the entire track width as it is.
Turn 5
April 2014:
I feel that Maxxis can do 5 flat out but need more time in the car.
May 2014:
Ran flat out on Maxxis with a passenger, lifting without a passenger.
June 2014:
Find blue dots for turn in point at speed.
Try the rain line left of the left white line. Make note of when I cross the white line in the dry - I believe I may be crossing it when pushing harder.
Turn 6
April 2014:
Braking for less than a second and should brake even less. Try throttle steering here.
May 2014:
Trailbraking is the ticket. Need more seat time to brake later confidently.
Turn 7
April 2014:
Flat out. I seem to be tire limited despite having enormous tire width. Get a reference point for turn in with the compression point.
June 2014:
Try driving straight, not following left edge of the track, and only turning in at compression point.
